Amy Winehouse

Back in February we hosted what proved to be Amy Winehouse’s last promo shoot. It was one of the first photoshoots at our Ruby House location and has easily provided some of the best images we’ve seen so far. While the term “iconic” gets bandied around all too easily in the blogging world these fantastic pictures shot by David Ellis show that never was there a term more apt.

The world will certainly be a quieter place without Amy Winehouse but her husky, soulful voice and powerful personality will, quite rightfully, immortalise her for years to come.

RIP Amy Winehouse 1983-2011

Chanel “Typewriter” Viral

Here’s the “Typewriter” viral for Chanel set at our Depository location. Combining the brands classic old-world philosophy with slick modern design the advert, featuring dancer Sarah Linstra, emblemises the mystery and provocativeness of Coco Chanel.

Introducing the new cast of Skins…

Here’s the latest generation of teenage tearaways ready to inflict terror upon the streets of Bristol. Ferried across the M3 to MC Motors for the day the chosen eight will be looking to follow Skins predecessor Dev Patel and use the platform as a stepping stone to the big time.

E4 are going interactive this series with its own dedicated site complete with blog, forums and behind the scenes clips. The characters have even got their own constantly updating Twitter profiles, somewhat blurring the traditional line between acting and reality!

Skins is coming soon to E4.

Restraint by Fleet Ilya

Fleet Ilya recently took over our brand new Dalston location for the weekend to host a pop-up shop featuring examples of next years collection. The Hackney based boutique leather brand had gone into collaboration with world renown photographer Rankin fusing his iconic photography with their fetishistic style exemplified through the exhibition “Restraint by Fleet Ilya”. Prints and projections of model Sophie Willing and Jethro Cave wearing strategically placed Fleet Ilya products were on display, prostate tactfully woven into the natural character of our five storey Stoke Newington Road property.

Also on display was a 10ft leather horse made out of dozens of intricately cut pieces of leather which had been jig-sawed together and had arrived via a stint at Dover Street Market. The friday night saw the launch with a bar and DJ set up in our basement whilst a violinist and animal-faced operatic dancer serenaded guests upstairs. The top floor was reserved as an interactive role-play experience for certain attendees as they were summoned by a dominatrix onto a gothic bed in a balloon-filled room for their “special treat”. The less said of that the better.

The shop was open for the rest of the weekend giving a chance for Susie at Style Bubble to come down and write a very complimentary review while the sunday saw the return of the scantily-clad operatic dancer in our shop window enticing curious passers-by as well as somewhat bemused neighbouring cabbies!

It was also the first time we had managed to put our new cinematic front sign to use and we were delighted to see it in all its glory featured on the Vogue Italia website!

Many thanks to Tobias Radcliffe for the use of these great images.

G-Star RAW Conference

We recently hosted the sales conference for the managers and behind the scenes team at G-Star RAW. Employees were flown in from all over Europe for the two day exhibition at MC Motors where the warehouse was split into the four main themes with each one decorated to compliment their extensive shoe collection. Me, Him and Her were on hand to stamp G-Star’s mark on it by decking the main room out with 12ft ceiling banners and setting up a rather cool cotton backdrop to project the “business talk” onto.

Multimedia demonstrations were also integrated into each area with background music and themed films helping to set the mood further. There was even a gentlemen’s rest and recovery room upstairs complete with classic Chesterfields, Scaletrix and themed magazines (though the cigars had to remain unlit for health and safety reasons!).

As the pictures show the industrial setting complimented G-Star’s brand identity and their creative team did a great job in placing their abstract ideas onto a concrete platform.

Many thanks to Ian at Me, Him and Her (not bad pics for a non-professional!) and Matthew and Carly and the team at G-Star for letting us use their images!

Beth Graham Collection

We recently had the girls from Hub, our favourite local store, in to photograph their new collection for in-house label Beth Graham. Their 2010 winter collection draws its inspiration from classic 70s British glamour with their combinations of silks, tweed and corduroy coupled with mother of pearl and fine leather. Playing with a sumptuous palette of dusky rose, mushroom, ocre and peat (tones which suit the shades of The House Next Door perfectly!) the collection echoes of faded decadence.

Hub’s two boutiques (one male and one female funnily enough) have a fantastic selection of good quality, cherry-picked clothing and accessories. For the men (of which I can personally vouch) they have the smart-casual look sussed to a tee!

If you’re in the north/east London area it’s well worth making your way to 49 and 88 Stoke Newington Church Street and checking them out!

Many thanks to photographer Simon Wisbey and the girls for letting us use their fantastic images.

Drop the Lime – “Hot as Hell”

Here’s a whole chunk of tantalising rockabilly to get your teeth into!

The Depository recently entertained the boys from Love Hate Productions as they brought New York based DJ and producer Drop the Lime over to record the video to his new tune “Hot as Hell”. Recently snapped up by Ministry of Sound Drop the Lime, AKA Luca Venezia, is the man behind Brooklyn’s notorious Trouble and Bass club night. With his influences stretching across the musical spectrum to include genres as diverse as Northern Soul, grime and minimal techno “Hot as Hell” manages to fuse rockabilly and dance together in a way that wouldn’t seem possible.

The catchy tune is currently big in England with the likes of Annie Mac and Zane Lowe while Switch and Diplo have been rinsing it the other side of the pond. Everyone knows what a bit of upbeat country and western can do to a party so we might just see this one take off! Look out for its release in January and check out his official site for European tour dates.

For any East London locals out there see if you can spot any of the Dalston institutions dotted throughout the video!
