Alex and Melita’s Wedding

Over the summer we hosted the wedding of Alex and Melita at MC Motors. After getting married at The Chapel of St. Peter and St. Paul at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich the happy couple made their way over to us in a wonderful silver 1962 Karmann Ghia with guests following across the river in traditional London taxis and a Routemaster bus.

After entering to the applause of friends and family the car was acutely reversed next to the entertainment for the evening provided by “fine purveyors of filthy swing” Top Shelf Jazz. A sit down meal for 130 ensued with vietnamese Summer Rolls to start and a tantalising Thai green curry for main course with after dinner coffees being provided by Brewedboy and his quirky coffeemobile.

The couples family had helped to stamp the newly weds mark on the venue by creatively decorating it with colourful floristry. After the speeches the first dance was to “At Last” by Etta James with one guest remarking that it had been “the best event they had ever been to”. High praise indeed.

Many thanks to Alex and Melita for sharing the pictures of their special day with us and check out photographer Liam Bailey’s site where there’s more examples of the great work he’s done.

The Genius of British Art

This season Channel 4 have been celebrating the way in which art has shaped and forged Britain and it’s identity with its “Genius of British Art” series. Narrated by cultural icons such as David Starkey and John Snow the weekly series has been run in conjunction with The National Gallery as part of their Friday Lates programme. Each week a chosen presenter has delved into a specialist theme on how art has influenced British culture and helped nurture our national psyche. Beginning during the reign of Henry VIII and ending with the YBA era of Tracy Emin and Damien Hirst the landmark series spans half a millenia baring witness to unprecedented shifts in attitudes and values.

The shows present us with some classic dinner table fodder such as David Starkey’s comparison between Hans Holbein and Mario Testino (and their portraits of Henry VIII and Princess Diana respectively) as well as recent Booker prize winner Howard Jacobsen challenging the cultural assumption of the “Victorian prude” with his exposé of an erotic underbelly of provocative, sexual art (though with a moral conscience of course!).

We managed to have all 6 national treasures at MC Motors for the publicity shots by Jude Edgington. Below is a synopsis of all six episodes of which you can watch any by following this link through to the 4oD website.

Episode 1 “Power and Personality”
Historian Dr David Starkey examines how royal portraiture from Henry VIII to Princess Diana has had an enduring influence on the iconic power of personality.

Episode 2 “Art for the People”
Dr Gus Casely-Hayford shows how our sense of identity was changed forever by the most distinctively British artist this country has ever produced: William Hogarth.

Episode 3 “Flesh”
Writer Howard Jacobson celebrates the way British artists depict sex and desire, and argues that the most compelling expression is to be found where we might least expect it: in the art of the Victorians.

Episode 4 “Visions of England”
At a time when Britain’s contemporary art world has been dominated by the ‘Sensation’ generation of Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin, it’s easy to dismiss English landscape art as nothing more than tea towel culture. That would be a big mistake, argues Sir Roy Strong.

Episode 5 “Modern Times”
Modern Art has made us who we are and it has certainly made Janet Street Porter who she is. Beginning in the stifling 1950s, Janet revisits her teenage years to show how modern art has been at the forefront of social and cultural changes, which define Britain today.

Episode 6 “The Art of War”
Former war reporter Jon Snow presents a timely reminder of how British artists have expressed and defined our response to the horror of war and, in the process, have triggered a debate about the role of art in British life. As the grandson of a First World War general, it’s a story with a personal resonance for Jon.

MINI Scooter E Concept Launch

We recently decked out the Vinyl Factory in our signature style for the launch of BMW’s new MINI Scooter. 50 years after the original MINI was launched the new emission-free scooter was suitably unveiled just around the corner from Carnaby Street, the spiritual home of the Swinging Sixties.

The new design mixes the traditional retro look of the MINI with a high-tech modern interface. The scooter can be charged from home and a special adapter means a smartphone can be used as a key to start the ignition. The phones face can then be used as a sat-nav, music player or a blue tooth phone while a special helmet will have earphones built in so you can listen to music or talk while riding. An innovative way to meet the demands of the young, urban generation.

Agyness Deyn’s universal appeal yet quintessentially British style meant she was an apt choice to launch the scooter which will now go on a worldwide publicity tour.

If you’re looking to buy one you’ll have to wait until 2012 but watch the launch party video here…

The Twins

Here’s some great images of the striking identical twins Phoebe and Lydia Sorrel Lake taken by our in-house photographer Molly Gibson. The sisters appeared last year as part of Damien Hirst’s “Pop Life” exhibition at the Tate Modern and are currently studying art themselves at Central St. Martins.

The pics also shows a sneak preview of our soon-to-be-unveiled fourth location, a 120 year old building spanning 5 floors which most recently existed as a Chinese takeaway. Sound interesting?

Keep your eyes peeled for more info…..

Mix it up with Vintage

If you’ve seen the latest Marks and Spencer’s advert on TV and thought some of the locations looked faintly familiar you’ll be pleased to know those cognitive skills are still as alert as ever!

We welcomed Lisa Snowdon, Ana Beatriz Barros, VV Brown and Twiggy to the upstairs room of our MC Motors location. Set to Cheryl Lynn’s disco classic “Got To Be Real” the iconic advert highlights key autumn items such as the aviator jacket and military coat as well as paying tribute to the return of tartan check.

The ad also higlights this autumns “Vintage Chic” trend and we think our dilapidated walls compliment this superbly. Full credit to their design team for their vision and creative set dressing!

Look out for our space from 0.30 mins onwards! (We can’t lay claim to the airfield or Millennium Bridge unfortunately!)

Another Great Wedding

Here are some brilliant pictures of the wedding reception of Laura and Ewen we recently hosted at The Depository and The House Next Door.

Following the ceremony at Frederick’s in Islington Laura, Ewen (in their fantastic vintage Citroen) and their guests made the short trip over to Stoke Newington.

After having some amazing portraits taken in The House Next Door the newly weds moved into the Depository for the reception. Following a buffet, a few speeches and many a glass of champagne the party began and from reports a great night was had by all!

Congratulations to the happy couple and thanks for letting us use the pics!

Also thanks to photographer David McNeil, check out his site and blog where there’s loads more images of this particular wedding and many more he’s done in the past!

Pixie Lott – “Broken Arrow”

Hot off the press, here’s the brand new video for Pixie Lott’s new single “Broken Arrow” filmed at our Depository location and produced by our friends at Mercury.

Pixie and her lovely mum Barbara are regular visitors to our locations having done numerous shoots as well as the video to her first ever number one, “Mama Do”, at MC Motors.

While Mama Do was an upbeat track involving an urban dance off, motorbikes and a huge fluffy mattress “Broken Arrow” has a softer beat showing a more mature, love-affected Pixie.

The song definitely shows Ms Lott in a different light and if past experience is anything to go by don’t be surprised to see it topping the charts within the next few weeks!

Pre-order it here and watch the video below….
