Luv Luv Luv Records Launch Party @ MC Motors

We recently played host to the official launch party of recently established independant label Luv Luv Luv Records at our MC Motors location featuring the live return of multi-platinum selling artist Florence & The Machine.

Set on an unusually sweltering September evening, the event featured perforances from a selection of the label’s newest signees including, the blues-tinged Jamie N Commons, London based art-rockers Theme Park, the boldly named Spector, and of course what was to be the main attraction of the evening, appearing in front of packed house, a fantastic full-band performance from Florence Welch and her well-oiled musical machine. Sporting a new hair-do, the South-London songstress showcased material from her up and coming album ‘Ceremonials’ along with belting out soon-to-be classics from her back catalogue, closing the event in spectacular fashion.

Barbara and Mark’s MC Motors Wedding

Here’s some fantastic images of the recent wedding of Barbara and Mark at MC Motors. After getting married at St. Mary Moorfields Church in Bishopsgate the happy couple arrived down our alleyway via pink taxi. There was a vintage 1950s feel to proceedings with Barbara in her beautiful Candy Anthony prom style dress and the bridesmaids standing out from the crowd in sassy yellow polka dotted numbers.

With the chemistry of the Irish-Aussie crowd bubbling nicely the scene was set for a good ol’ knees up with music provided courtesy of rockabilly outfit The Hightown Crows and MC Motors regulars The Wedding Smashers. The newly-weds then had their profile shots taken next door in Ruby House while the underground bar played host to those late night owls still standing at the end.

We’d like to thank both Barbara and Mark for allowing us to use their fantastic images and we’re delighted to have met you both and that the day went so well. Also many thanks to Nick Tucker, the photographer, for producing such images and again for allowing us to share them. Check out his site for more pictures and if anyone’s looking for a wedding photographer he definitely gets our recommendation!

The wedding (and a very complimentary feature – thanks!) was also featured on cult wedding blog Rock n Roll Bride which also provides plenty more images to delve through!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Empire Magazine recently released a ultimate movie celebration special to coincide with the release of the final instalment of the Harry Potter series. Tastefully shot by Sarah Dunn at both MC Motors and The House Next Door the series includes all the major players of the iconic films including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Robbie Coltrane and Timothy Spall.

(This one wasn’t taken at any of our locations but we couldn’t do a Harry Potter series without including Rupert Gint!)

Popstar to Operastar TV Advert

Here’s the new commercial for popular entertainment series “Popstar to Operastar” recently recorded at MC Motors. Featuring Katherine Jenkins, Rollando Villlazon and an airborne Myleene Klass the ad was skilfully curated by the ITV creative team.

Fortunately nobody was injured during its recording!

GB Olympics Hopefuls

MC Motors recently played host to a photo shoot for The Sunday Times Style Magazine featuring a selection of Britain’s highly rated 2012 Olympics team. With the Olympics taking place just a (fairly large!) discus throw away in Stratford it seemed fitting that the talented Olympians should come down to be glammed up (or down rather!) for the day. Simon Emmett took the snaps to publicise the collaboration between Adidas and Stella McCartney to design the Team GB Collection which will be in stores from May 16th.

Beijing silver medallist Philips Idowu returned back to his Hackney routes for the shoot. The highly rated triple jumper stands out from the crowd with his brightly coloured hair and facial piercings and will be one of the hot favourites in London next year.

Track and Field specialist Jessica Ennis will be another one to carry the weight of Britain’s Olympic expectations next year. After being unfortunately ruled out of the Beijing games at the last minute Ennis went on to win gold at the 2009 World championships in Berlin after leading throughout and finishing an unprecedented 200 points ahead of her nearest competitor.

Tom Daley has been earmarked as a 2012 hopeful ever since the London games were announced in 2005 and given his public profile it is hard to believe that he has just celebrated his 17th birthday. After winning 2 golds at the 2010 Commonwealth Games Daley will definitely be providing the biggest cheer at the London Aquatics Centre.

110 metre hurdler William Sharman is a man of many talents being able to play the cornet, is a classically trained pianist, has an economics degree and was once the time keeper on Gladiators. “I always thought I needed to set myself up first or I’ll end up a nobody,” he says, “and you don’t want to be a nobody in Corby.”

22 year old Lizzie Armitstead is only one of two female cyclists who mix the track and long distance disciplines. A gold medallist at the 2009 Track World Championships Lizzie will be part of a strong looking British cycling squad.

Triathlete Hollie Avil was the European and world junior triathlon champion in 2007 and the youngest ever athlete to podium at successive debut World Cup races.

Jamie Woon – Mirrorwriting

Avant-garde musical alchemist Jamie Woon talks to 4Play about his new critically acclaimed “Mirrorwriting” album. With musical excerpts filmed at MC Motors the viral examines his thinking behind the album and how he pieced together the dubstep/soul collaboration so profusely.

“Woon’s debut has taken its time, but the beguiling results have been worth the wait.”

Read the BBC’s review explaining why they chose Jamie to be on their Sound of 2011 shortlist or follow through to itunes for album purchase info..

Vogue Sposa March 2011

Here are some beautiful pictures in the March 2011 edition of Vogue Sposa shot at The House Next Door. The quarterly Italian magazine by Conde Nast concentrates on mixing all things wedding with all things style. These vintage themed pics by Wendy Bevan certainly fit that category!

House of Hackney Pop-up Shop

Over the next few days we’re pleased to be hosting a pop-up shop for the launch of new luxury interior company House of Hackney at our Stoke Newington Road location. Lily Vanilli will also be bringing her expertise to the event with her 180 cake, ice cream and high tea concoction. The shop is open this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 10am-7pm so feel free to pop along to 76 Stoke Newington Road, N16 7XB. You won’t be able to miss our old illuminated cinema sign outside!

House of Hackney are unveiling collections with a strong local theme being named after cultural landmarks such as “Hackney Empire” and “Dalston Rose”. Their website states “Conceived as the antithesis of disposable identikit furnishings and white wall fatigue the home furnishings, wallpaper and textiles label is characterized by prints and products that are steeped in tradition but are bold and non-conformist. Described as ‘Colefax and Fowler on acid’ the House of Hackney label overhauls the concept of traditional home wares and brings them bang up to date with their playful and irreverent prints.”

Cake specialist Lily Vanilli is also taking over the basement with her 180 members club (though anyone can buy on the day) and is rustling up tantalising delights such as Mini Apple Champagne Donuts and Absinthe and Mint Chocolate Chip ice-cream. These will be complimented by live acts including Marawa the Incredible and her Fruit Salad of Death Act and a Live Fortune Cookie Teller. Tickets are £10 and include cake tasting performances and tea.

My Chemical Romance, Muse and Biffy Clyro were amongst the winners as was the E4 programme Skins (see Introducing the New Cast of Skins post), which won best TV show.
