Introducing…. Ruby’s our new Dalston Basement Bar!

Set underneath the cinema sign at 76 Stoke Newington Road Ruby’s is an intimate subterranean drinking den serving expertly mixed cocktails and quality alternatives in a unique and atmospheric setting. Set up by Tom Gibson in the former kitchen of Ruby House 3, a Chinese takeaway, the room was stripped back and adorned with a Mayfair bar and some delicate interior alterations.

Drinks are made using top quality ingredients with all alcohol being premium and all juices and syrups freshly made on site. We place great emphasis on the small touches that make a difference so all our Blackberry Mojito’s are served in 1940’s milk bottles, all our beer mats are vintage and unique and service will always be performed with a smile. Ruby’s aims to fuse the atmosphere of an old fashioned bar with modern day standards of quality and service.

We have a small carefully crafted cocktail menu which include 7 Ruby’s classics and 7 seasonal ones plus a selection of alternatives including Redchurch Ale, Brooklyn lager, Breton cider, fine wines plus a whole array of others.

Superette + Castle Gibson presents “The Roast Dinner”

We’re teaming up with Superette to host a secret pop-up Sunday lunch on 19th February. Mixing their dining expertise (they certainly know their roasts!) with our interiors “The Roast Dinner” will attempt to redefine the concept of the traditional “pop-up restaurant”.

With an appetising menu featuring pigs head terrine or gin cured salmon to start, “Essex Bird” or a shoulder of lamb to share plus the traditional offerings of pork belly, rib of beef and nut roast you get the feeling that those attending won’t be going home hungry! We’ll also be setting up a licensed bar to help wash it all down and creating a lounge area in our signature style to create what we hope will be the perfect Sunday lunch.

For more info and to apply visit the Superette website.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2012

To commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day on the 27th January we were pleased to donate The House Next Door for the filming of the promotional video made by the charity Speak Up, Speak Out. Featuring the likes of poet Benjamin Zephaniah, singer Beverly Knight and choristers The London Gay Men’s Chorus the viral explores the theme of communication and power of speech.

“Holocaust Memorial Day provides an opportunity for everyone to learn lessons from the Holocaust, Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides and apply them to the present day to create a safer, better future. On HMD we share the memory of the millions who have been murdered in the Holocaust and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur in order to challenge hatred and persecution in the UK today.” hmd.org.uk

Support their cause and sign their pledge to acknowledge the past by challenging the language of hatred around us.

ghd “Before Midnight”

Here’s a great picture shot by Tim Bret-Day for the ghd “Before Midnight” campaign. Set at Ruby House to themes of glamour, decadence and the fairytale sprinkled with a selection of exuberant hairstyles Tim’s shot encapsulates the Cinderella brief perfectly. Following that is a short promo of the shoot prepared by the boys at Love Hate Productions.

Rihanna “You Da One”

Following on from Britney last month here’s the promo for Rihanna’s latest single “You Da One” recorded exclusively in MC Motors and our picturesque yard outside. Set to a Clockwork Orange theme the tune is part of the “Talk that Talk” album and was recorded while Rihanna was in town performing her “Loud” tour at the O₂.

Look out for the glamorous Hackney council bins making an appearance at 3.18!

There’s also some extra behind the scenes footage…

And the artwork….

Britney Spears “Criminal” Video

MC Motors recently played host to part of the video to the new Britney Spears video “Criminal” directed by Chris Marrs Pilliero. Set to a Bonnie and Clyde style storyline featuring sex, blood and violence and a gun wielding Britney fleeing Stoke Newington Town Hall the video seems a long way from her more “innocent” early days.

The production was filmed at a number of UK locations including a country house in Surrey, a newsagents in Ealing, Stoke Newington Town Hall and our warehouse and the alleyway outside. Britney’s bedroom in the scene is set against our cream safety deposit boxes and a temporary shower was erected in the main room. The police are seen running on our bridge connecting to Ruby House and the cars pull up on the alleyway outside on Millers Avenue. Luckily none of the warehouse was damaged in any of the gun battles.

Be warned that the video has been give an 18+ rating!
